Professional Development Programming for a Brighter Future

At New Directions, we're dedicated to providing comprehensive family and community support services throughout Knox County, OH, and beyond. Our professional development programming is designed to foster healthy relationships, encourage community involvement, and promote safety and well-being. With over 41 years of experience, our trauma-informed professionals are here to meet the unique needs of every community member.


Our programs include:

  • Healthy Relationship 101

    Target Audience: Community members

    Session Duration: One 90-minute to 2-hour session


    Program Overview: The Healthy Relationship 101 workshop provides a space for community members to learn about healthy and unhealthy relationships, consent, bystander intervention, and proactive interventions for adults. Participants will gain skills to identify signs of intimate partner violence, establish healthy boundaries, and communicate more effectively.

  • Knox DD: Building Good Relationships

    Target Audience: Adults with disabilities

    Session Duration: 4-part series


    Program Overview: Presented by Knox DD and New Directions, this series covers:


    1. What are Relationships: Learn about different relationship types and recognize red and green flags.
    2. Importance of Friendship: Understand what to look for in a friendship, identify red and green flags, and learn how to be a positive friend.
    3. Setting Boundaries: Learn about boundaries, how to set them, and the power of saying "no".
    4. Being Safe Online: Learn about digital safety and how to identify different forms of digital abuse.

  • One Love: Escalation Workshop

    Target Audience: College students

    Session Duration: Minimum 90 minutes


    Program Overview: The Escalation Workshop features a compelling film that tells the story of an abusive relationship from its sweet beginnings to a tragic end. Participants will learn to recognize warning signs of relationship abuse, gain tools for bystander intervention, and identify both on and off-campus resources.

  • Safe Zone

    Target Audience: Community members

    Session Duration: One 2-hour session


    Program Overview: Safe Zone participants will learn about the impact of violence on the LGBTQ+ community, LGBTQ+ vocabulary, and how to be intentionally inclusive in both personal and professional settings.

  • Stand Up, Speak Out

    Target Audience: Community members

    Session Duration: One 90-minute to 2-hour session


    Program Overview: Stand Up, Speak Out provides basic information about domestic and sexual violence and teaches participants how to intervene as bystanders.

  • Stewards of Children

    Target Audience: Community members

    Session Duration: One 2-hour session


    Program Overview: New Directions offers Stewards of Children training from Darkness to Light, aiming to prevent, recognize, and respond responsibly to child sexual abuse. This training is approved for 2 hours of CEUs for social workers, nurses, and dentists.

  • Hidden in Plain Sight

    Target Audience: Community members (must be 21 years of age)

    Session Duration: One 2-hour session


    Program Overview: Funded by DELTA Impact and the Drug-Free Communities grant, this interactive presentation increases participants' awareness of items that may indicate risky behaviors in adolescents, such as drug and alcohol use, teen dating violence, and suicide.

  • Keep Knox Safe

    Target Audience: Community members

    Session Duration: One 2-hour session


    Program Overview: Funded by DELTA Impact and the Drug-Free Communities grant, Keep Knox Safe is a program for the service industry that increases knowledge of alcohol rules and regulations, how sexual violence occurs in bar/restaurant settings, and builds skills for intervening in problematic situations. This training adheres to DORA compliance requirements.
